Industry: Professional Services
HQ: Vancouver, BC
Service: Talent Acquisition & AskHR
About: Ballistic Arts is a high-touch digital marketing agency that focuses on online lead generation and brand awareness for mid-market B2B companies with very specific niches. The agency acts as their clients’ marketing department with full divisions in lead generation digital marketing, graphic design, video production and web development, all for a fraction of the overhead of having the labour in-house.
HOW WE HELPED:
AskHR clients have ad hoc HR needs. It’s a cost-effective service that offers ‘HR on speed dial to help solve HR questions and issues quickly as they arise to reduce business risk. Ballistic Arts currently subscribes to our AskHR service for support with day-to-day HR operations.
Through our On Demand Recruitment service, we worked closely with Ballistic Arts to enhance their recruitment process to attract high-quality candidates aligned with both job requirements and company culture. We revamped their job descriptions and interview guides to emphasize relevant skills, experience, and core values. This strategic approach helped refine the talent pool and align candidates with the company’s needs.

QuestCoast Studios

Industry: Digital Production
HQ: Vancouver, BC
Service: Fractional HR & Recruiting
About: Quest Coast is a dynamic digital production house with expertise in capturing and delivering a diverse range of film and live events. Their core focus revolves around collaboration to enhance and elevate content for online platforms. By joining forces with their clients and partners, they strive to create exceptional experiences that resonate with audiences and leave a lasting impact.
HOW WE HELPED:
When we started with Questcoast (A Filthy Lot), they had gone through a lot of change, and their HR Director was transitioning out of the organization. As this key team member exited, we supported and mentored their new HR Coordinator. We were integral in change management with respect to a cultural and business shift in the organization while also facilitating employee relations issues and recruitment efforts.
Beacon HR acted as the point of contact, alongside their HR Coordinator, for all employee and manager questions related to performance, wellness, policies, conflict etc. We lead mediation, investigations, and supported the team in navigating conflict.
In addition, we provided support with Performance Reviews by creating new forms for the performance review cycle and actively participated in every performance review conversation to ensure the process was moving smoothly and to provide feedback to managers.
After one year of partnership, we’ve scoped out, hired, and onboarded the team’s next in-house HR person. We’re downgrading the monthly hours in which we support QuestCoast and are excited to continue supporting our ‘forever partner’!
PRIMECorp
Client Since: 2023
Industry: Public Services
HQ: Vancouver, BC
Service: HR Project - HR Audit & Compensation Framework
About: PRIMECorp is the only multi-jurisdictional police records management and computer-aided dispatch system covering an entire province in Canada and has been described as unique, leading edge and a model for sharing police information in North America.
HOW WE HELPED:
When we started with PRIMECorp, the company was undergoing a separation from their parent company, EComm. Many of the employees were seconded from EComm and the team did not currently have a dedicated HR team. We worked closely with the leadership team (CEO & Director of Finance) to understand their current positioning to assist in delivering foundational HR components and provided strategic, tailored guidance to the primary stakeholders to help the organization achieve its long-term objectives.
We performed a comprehensive audit and assessment of the HR infrastructure and programs. Following the audit, we created new processes to better align with the organization based on the results of the Employee Engagement survey we created and conducted with the employees. Some of these initiatives included the creation of an Employee Handbook to reflect the culture of the organization, a comprehensive revision of existing policies and the addition of new policies to ensure legal compliance.
A major component of our work with PrimeCorp was to design and implement a new total rewards framework. A 5-Step Progression framework was developed to reflect the average EComm performance factor which also included an annual General Wage Increase and was designed to remain flexible with granularity of roles and ensure compensation was similar to EComm’s unionized pay table.
Areas of focus for the Compensation project included:
External Comparability and Competitiveness:
Competitive with the market (similar work / similar environments)
Attract and retain employees
In line with other BC public sector (policing) agencies
Initial Parity with E-Comm:
2024 pay aligned with E-Comm
No employees negatively impacted
Market based and benchmarked by Mercer
2024 GWI 3.75%
Standardized Framework:
Robust framework with flexibility for job deviations and market fluctuations
Fair and consistent system for job classifications
Allows for internal calibration of jobs providing internal equity across the organization
Affordability:
Financially sustainable
Affordable within PRIMECorp’s strategic financial plans-
At the completion of the project, with the addition of leadership coaching and training, PRIMECorp had all the tools they required in order to attract and retain top talent, communicate a clear vision to employees fostering a transparent, positive and productive work environment and the knowledge to achieve their strategic objectives.

HOW WE HELPED:
When we started with the BC Green Party they had had multiple changes in leadership within the last year and needed to re-evaluate how they were approaching HR. They had never had any formal HR processes, documentation or in-house support before - prior to Beacon joining everything HR was done off the side of the desk.
During our partnership with the BC Greens, we conducted an audit of their HR practices and records. We have led projects in reissuing employment contracts, refining recruitment processes, establishing onboarding and offboarding procedures, managing their HRIS and revising their employee handbook.
Additionally, we provide ongoing support through leadership consultations and guidance on various people management issues like employee relations and terminations, ensuring compliance, fairness and good communication throughout the employee experience. The dedicated team that makes PRISMA happen consists of its artistic director, contractors, volunteers, sponsors, donors and members.
HOW WE HELPED:
Our collaboration with PRISMA involved support on two fronts. Firstly, we assisted in bringing their internal people documentation up to date. Secondly, we facilitated a comprehensive full-day workshop centred on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for their team and Board.
Working closely with PRISMA's team, we revamped their employee and contractor agreements, standardized job descriptions across the organization, and created their first employee handbook. This handbook was a product of collective input from the entire team, ensuring it authentically reflected PRISMA's values and ethos, making it inclusive and relevant to all team members.
Regarding the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) workshop, while acknowledging PRISMA's existing foundation in this domain, they expressed a desire to deepen their engagement and ensure alignment across the board. To tailor the workshop effectively, we initiated DEIB interviews with team members, gauging their individual perspectives and identifying areas for further development.
The full-day workshop was designed to delve deeper into DEIB concepts, foster alignment, and explore opportunities for growth and enhancement within PRISMA's DEIB initiatives. After partnering with us, the team at PRISMA walked away with tangible action items to implement in their respective departments and felt more empowered to ask questions and have conversations about diversity and inclusion.

To further improve employee engagement, they also wanted to close some of the gaps they had around core HR functions such as performance management.
Being cognizant of the client’s budget constraints, the Beacon People Operations Team performed a "mini" HR Audit as a starting point. We focused on providing a detailed compensation analysis of three critical roles at Long Life so they could see how they stacked up against recruitment competitors in this market. We also put together a total rewards survey that Long Life used to get a better understanding of the types of benefits and perks that would bring the most value to their employees.
On the performance management front, we created a comprehensive framework and meeting agenda that enabled Long Life to start implementing a structured performance review process.
